AGO: Jokowi is Not Required as Witness over TransJakarta Case

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Young prosecutor for special crimes Widya Pramono said that the elected president Joko "Jokowi" Widodo will not be summoned as a witness for the graft case of Transjakarta bus procurement. “There is no testimony or urgent requirement to summon Jokowi,” he said in his office, Friday, September 19.

To date, he said, the investigation is still linked with testimonies from suspects who have been detained. They are former Jakarta Transportation chief, Udar Pristono, and director of industry technology and transportation systems at the Agency of Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), Prawoto.

The Attorney general office (AGO) is not influenced by outside pressures saying that Jokowi has to be questioned. “If investigators have not called him (Jokowi), then we will not,” he uttered. Up to this moment, the investigators still could not obtain investigation material from questioning the suspects.

However, Widya affirmed that he will leave no stone unturned. The AGO will immediately question anyone who is required for their testimonies. “Let's just wait for the next investigation,” he added.

Jokowi viewed, Udar's arrest by the AGO was purely the law enforcer's affairs. He does not wish to dispute the matter that involved his subordinate. “The arrest (of Pristono) has been handed over to the legal jurisdiction,” he said at the Jakarta City Hall, Thursday, September 18.
