TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Six civilians have died during a clash with pro-Russia rebels in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine on Sunday - an incident which has been dubbed as the bloodiest outbreak of violence since a ceasefire agreement was signed 10 days ago.

Constant bombing and artillery shelling have been reported throughout Sunday around Donetsk's airport, which spewed clouds of black smoke over the city, according to AFP reports.

"Six civilians have died in the past 24 hours," said Donetsk Deputy Mayor, Kostyantyn Savinov on Monday, while Donetsk City Hall reported that 15 civilians were injured during the hostility.

The spokesperson for Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council Andriy Lysenko said that there were also fatalities among military personnel, but the details of it will be published on a later date.

Security analysts from the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) - which had mediated the ceasefire agreement on September 5 - reported that there were shootings at a marketplace in one of the districts in Donetsk.

"Smoke came out of one building and the fire brigade was at the scene," said OSCE through a statement.

It was said that the observers were informed by the rebels that four people have been killed, and that the rebels had seen the dead body of a woman laid bare on the street.

Donetsk, the largest city under the control of the rebels in Ukraine's east, has witnessed intense fighting and violence since the conflict began five months ago.
