TEMPO.CO, Cianjur – The National Research Team of Mount Padang Site formed by the Ministry of Education and Culture has conducted a preliminary research in areas adjacent to the mountain since September 7-31, 2014.
The team's deputy chief of archeology department, Ali Akbar, said the research sought to determine the depth of the layers in the archeological site.
“The preliminary research is performed in several points in the south, southeast, east, west and its fifth terrace. The results will be reported to the Ministry of Education and Culture as material for the next research,” he told reporters in Cianjur on Sunday, September 14.
The team has uncovered an artifact in an apparent form of a kujang (traditional weapon of West Java) made of andesitic rock containing a magnetic field that was shaped using high technology.
“We haven’t confirmed yet as to what the object is, but it was certainly not made naturally and has become and artifact. It looks like a tool for ritual ceremonies. We’ll examine it in our lab,” Ali said.
