TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) said that Jakarta will remain under a level-1 security alert until Monday, August 25, 2014. The capital was given the security status alert on August 19, 2014, in anticipation of possible riot following the Constitutional Court (MK) ruling of the presidential election result dispute case.

"Right now, Jakarta is still under a level-1 security alert. Polri Chief and the Minister of Political, Legal, and Security Affairs have ordered for the security alert to be maintained until Monday, which means that Polri is still on standby, ready to secure the on-going processes," said Polri's head of public relations Ronny F Sompie, in Jakarta on Friday, August 22, 2014.

Ronny said that the entire police force is responsible for securing all stages of the electoral process, from the beginning until the inauguration ceremony of the president-elect on October 20, 2014 at the Parliament Complex (DPR/MPR Building).

He added that police will continue to secure all buildings and offices used by electoral organizers and other related institutions - such as the Constitutional Court (MK) and Electoral Organisers Ethics Committee (DKPP).

"The amount of security personnels will not be as great as before. The offices of Regional General Election Commissions [KPUD] and General Election Supervisory Body [Bawaslu] in other districts and cities are still under the watch of security personnels," he said.

However, Ronny also said that the amount of Polri personnels deployed to secure the capital remains the same at 21,000. "Twenty one thousand Polri staff will continue to assist Jakarta Police to maintain order in Jakarta. They are under the direct order of Chief of Jakarta Police," he said.

Those not enlisted to secure the capital have been ordered to maintain order in their respective districts and/or cities.

Ronny also mentioned that the security detail for the president and vice-president elects is the responsibility of the Commander of Indonesian Military (TNI)

"Security details for VVIPs will be assigned in accordance to current protocols. We will continue to assist in maintaining security and order throughout the electoral process, as per our mandate," explained Ronny. "Once the president-elect assumes the office, his security detail will be arranged for by the Presidential Guards [Paspampres]."
