TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Several world leaders congratulated Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Jusuf "JK" Kalla on their victory in the 2014 presidential election.
Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, expressed his intention to establish cooperation with Jokowi-JK right after the new government is established. He also praised Indonesia as the third largest democratic country in the world that has successfully organized general elections. He is optimistic that bilateral relations between both countries could recover despite the recent spying allegations.
Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong also congratulated the winning pair through their twitter account. Through his twitter account @NajibRazak, the Malaysian Prime Minister mentioned his hope to reaffirm bilateral relations between Indonesia and Malaysia to Jokowi's twitter account @jokowi_do2. Meanwhile, Singaporean Prime Minister Lee is looking forward to strengthening bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Singapore.
In addition to Najib Razak and Lee Hsien Loong, United States Secretary of State John Kerry congratulated Jokowi and said that Indonesia has given a good lesson on democracy to the world. "The United States looks forward to working with the elected president Widodo as we deepen out [both countries'] partnership," said Kerry as quoted by ABC News on Tuesday, July 22, 2014.
Following Kerry, Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida also congratulated Jokowi and hoped to establish cooperative relationship to strengthen bilateral partnership between Indonesia and Japan.
