TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Texas Governor Rick Perry activated 1,000 National Guard troops, deploying them to the Rio Grande Valley. The national Guard will join the state’s Department of Public Safety in an effort to combat human smuggling across the country’s southern border.
“I will not stand idly by while our citizens are under assault, and little children from Central America are detained in squalor. We are too good a country for that to occur,” said Perry, as cited by RT. Over 57,000 children from Central America have entered United States illegally this year only. Perry noted that there were actually more in number, and that it inflicts to cases of human trafficking and general crime.
Perry had previously President Barack Obama to deploy the National Guard troops to the border, in which no real response has been made. Back in 2006, President George W. Bush sent 6,000 National Guards to the border. During Obama's administration, some of the troops were withdrawn.
