Hundreds of Foreign Observers to Supervise Presidential Election

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hadar Nafis Gumay, a member of the General Elections Commission (KPU) appreciated the presence of 215 foreign observers that will monitor the presidential election on Wednesday, July 9, 2014.
"We appreciate their presence here. We believe that with this many observers, the presidential election will be honest, fair and transparent," said Hadar on Monday, July 7, 2014.
KPU and agency representatives that invite the foreign observers, held a coordination meeting to prepare and facilitate the observation of presidential election. The foreign observers will oversee elections in several regions such as Jakarta, Aceh, Yogyakarta, Semarang, West Java, Banten and East Java.
The observers will be organized under the coordination of the International Foundation for Electoral System (IFES), the Institute for Peace and Democracy (IPD) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Stiftung Fur Die Freiheit, International IDEA-Asia and the Pacific Regional Program, PT Indra Indonesia Menara BCA, the Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem), and Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) Foundation.
