TEMPO.CO, Rome - Pope Francis has washed the feet of 12 elderly and disabled people on Thursday, in a pre-Easter ritual at Don Carlo Gnocchi Center in Rome, Italy.
As quoted by Associated Press, one of the elderly was a Libyan Muslim, showing Pope Francis 'willingness to serve others like a 'servant'.
Pope Francis told the faithful that he was performing the ritual to remind himself how to serve others. "Jesus made a gesture, a job, the service of a slave, a servant," he said. "And He leaves this inheritance to us: We need to be servants to one another."
Pope Francis is well-known as a leader who appreciates diversity.
