TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government of Argentina announced that the Pope, the leader of the Catholic Church, will have an Argentina passport, not as a citizen of the Vatican.
The announcement came after the Ambassador of Argentina for the Vatican said that the Pope has requested this. Last Friday, the Pope came to the embassy in Rome to have his fingerprints and picture taken.
The interesting thing is, he did not asked to be prioritized in the passport administrations application. "He exclusively said he did not want any special treatment and that his passport be processed through the usual system," said Argentina's Minister of Interior, Florencio Randazzo. "The Pope goes through the process like everyone else."
The Pope will receive his passport within a few days in the Vatican. In the near future, he will be visiting the United States.
Pope Francis, whose real name is Jorge Mario Bergoglio, was the Archbishop of Buenos Aires. He is the 266th Pope elected in the Papal Conclave of 2013 on the second day, March 13, 2013.
