TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A film by Indonesian movie makers from Makassar, South Sulawesi, entitled 'Sepatu Baru' (New Shoes) has succeeded their bid in the selection process of Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) to compete in the short movie category of the movie competition. Sepatu Baru will be competing against 16 other short movies from 15 countries to win the Crystal Bears award.
The film directed by Aditya Ahmad tells a story about a young girl living in a slump area who wants to wear her brand new shoes while rains keep drenching her home. She then decided to try a traditional yet mythical way to stop the rain by throwing underwear on to her roof.
"We will go [to Berlin] this week," said Shinta Febriany, the supervisor of the short film on Monday.
Berlinale is one of the prestigious world-class film festivals which are held every February since 1950. This year, the festival will be held on February 6 to 16. Sepatu Baru had also won the Special mention Award in the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival on December last year.
