TEMPO.CO, Beijing - Chinese Investor Chen Guangbiao, expressed his interest in purchasing The New York Times shares.

"I plan to buy The New York Times, please don't consider this as a joke," says Chen in an article in the Global Times Newspaper, as quoted by Channel News Asia, last Monday, January 6, 2014.

Chen, who is ranked as one of the top 400 richest men in China, wrote that "the style of The New York Times makes it difficult to report on China objectively." According to Chen, if the third largest newspaper in the United States is bought, then the reports might be more objective. Chen admitted that he has spoken to other interested investors regarding the acquisition.

Chen added that if he can successfully purchase the media, he would make some necessary changes to produce better and more objective news reports while regaining credibility and influence. Last Monday he said that he would visit the United States "to discuss the acquisition."

Chen got the idea to purchase the newspaper during the time he wanted to place advertising in the paper on December 2012 when he saw an article on the dispute of Diaoyus Island by China and Senkaku by the Japanese.

"I noticed that the Americans know very little regarding the new and civilized China, who has enjoyed development like never before," said Chen.
