TEMPO.CO, Bor – Sectarian clashes occurring in South Sudan has forced the United States to evacuate its citizens from Bor, capital city of Jonglei State. The evacuation started on Sunday, December 22, 2013, after conditions in the city worsens and the city has been occupied by rebel forces.
As quoted by Xinhua, spokesperson for the US Department of Foreign Affairs Jennifer Psaki, said that US citizens and citizens of its partner countries were being evacuated from Bor to Juba, the capital city of South Sudan.
In the evacuation, around 380 officials and US citizens, and 300 citizens of US partner countries were evacuated to safer zones, such as Juba and Nairobi, Kenya.
Previously on Saturday, December 21, 2013, a US military aircraft deployed for the evacuation process were attacked by rebels, causing injuries to four US soldiers.
