TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Time magazine has issued the list of best movies in 2013, including the Indonesian-themed The Act of Killing. The movie directed by Joshua Oppenheimer, depicting the journey of Anwar Congo and friends, has received major reviews from Time.
The movie itself tells a story of mass murder in Indonesia back in 1965-1966. Most of the culprits, including Anwar Congo, were anti-communist and believing that it was a heroic action. Joshua Oppenheimer worked on the movie for an astonishing 7-year time.
The Act of Killing, titled in Indonesia release as Jagal, sits on the eighth place, along with other movies in the list like The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, 12 Years a Slave, Frozen, Furious 6, and Gravity.
