TEMPO.CO, Washington – After a long negotiation, the government of the United States and Afghanistan have reached an agreement on a security pact following the termination of the US of war mission in Afghanistan in 2014. US Secretary of State John Kerry, announced the agreement on Thursday, November 21.
The agreement confirmed that United States military personnel will continue to train, provide advice, and supply weapons for 350 thousand Afghanistan troops and police that have been prepared in the last five years.
According to the agreement, US will not conduct any combat operations. However, the agreement gives wide opportunities for any counter-terror mission, which remains as a top priority for the US.
The agreement was reached just several hours before 3,000 Afghanistan figures from various areas in Kabul gather to discuss whether President Hamid Karzai must sign the agreement or not.
The war in Afghanistan, which was started in October 2011, has killed 2,153 US soldiers and tens of thousands Afghanistan civilians. Although the mission will end in 2014, the US still insists on stationing its soldiers in Afghanistan.
