TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - DKI Jakarta Governor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has declared the city is prepared to face the rainy season. He said that all preparations, starting from dredging dams up until the installation of infiltration wells, have been accelerated to face the peak of the rainy season in January.
The governor stated on Thursday that flooding has become a priority issue that needs to be faced.
Jokowi said the city has prepared ten steps to overcome floods, which include the dredging of 12 dams, installation of 2,000 units of infiltration wells, dredging of large and small rivers, and formation a working unit for floods.
The former Solo mayor also emphasized how society plays a key role in the alleviation of floods.
"It is pointless to dredge here and there if society still litters," he said while adding that each person must begin to raise awareness in themselves.
To help stimulate the people, Jokowi has offered a partnership program for managing trash, which has been included in Bylaw No. 3/2013. This bylaw states that people can propose a partnership for recycling trash in order to create an economic value for garbage. Therefore, recycling campaigns will not merely be a slogan in the capital city.
