TEMPO.CO, Brisbane - Australian politician Stephanie Banister has pulled out of the nation’s upcoming elections after being mocked following a shocking and ludicrous interview on Channel Seven, a local Australian television network.
Stephanie was ridiculed after her interview was aired on national television last August 7 consisting of one blunder after another, one of which referred to Islam as a country.
"I don't oppose Islam as a country but I do feel that their laws should not be welcome here in Australia," said the mother of two during an inclusive interview at her house.
The 27-year-old member of the right-wing nationalist party One Nation was also unable to differentiate between the words "haram" (meaning forbidden or sinful) and "Koran". If that was not enough, she also advocates a ban on halalfood but that said similar dietary guidelines for followers of Judaism, known as kosher, were okay because ''Jews follow Jesus Christ''.
"Less than 2% of Australians follow haram. Jews aren't under haram. They have their own religion which follows Jesus Christ," she said.
Stephanie told Fairfax Media she felt she had been misrepresented and had corrected herself many times but it was cut from the interview. She claimed she knew that Islam was not a country and meant to say "Islamic countries".
Aside from the shameful broadcast of her blunders about religion, Stephanie was recently arrested and charged after placing stickers on Nestle products in a Brisbane shopping center saying ''halal food funds terrorism'', Channel Seven said.
