TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Craving for a different holiday experience? Come to Bahama Island. The island officially named Big Major Cay, but it is more popular with the name 'Pig Island' because it is the pigs who dominate the land.
As reported by News.com.au, the island with virgin beaches has beautiful landscape. There are other islands surround the pretty island. Visitors in Bahama will often find pigs playing and swimming in the water freely. Some of the pigs even approach tourists to show off their expertise in swimming the calm water.
The Pig Island is probably first published by a photographer named Eric Cheng and his boat captain Jim Abernathy. "I was capturing pictures of the sea and white whales in southern Bahama, the captain heard that there are pigs inhabiting Big Major," said Cheng. Triggered by their curiosity, both men visit the island to see it for themselves. "Once we landed, it was easy for us to find them. Some of the pigs are pink and some others are brown. They were seemed to enjoying themselves while lying on the beach," said Cheng.
The origin of the pigs is still a big question for most of the tourists. But rumor has it that the pigs were brought by some sailors who passed by Bahama Island few years ago. It is believed that the sailor left some pigs in the island because they wanted to use it as a place to stock food. Luckily for the pigs, the sailor did not seem to come back, ever again. Apparently, few people also inhabit this island.
