TEMPO.CO, Singapore - Haze in Singapore has reached the hazardous level for the first time. Singaporean government ensured the people that they would take necessary steps.
"Pollution Standard Index (PSI) has reached the highest level, 321, on Wednesday at 10.00 local time," a local news portal wrote, today. The highest PSI in 1997 only reached 226. According to Singapore National Environment Agency (NEA), a PSI reading above 300 indicates 'hazardous' air quality, while a reading between 201 and 300 means 'very unhealthy'.
Speaking in press conference on Wednesday evening in Singapore, Minister of Environment and Water Resources Vivian Balakrishnan promised to urge Indonesia to take action to tackle the haze problem together.
Vivian further added, NEA's CEO Andrew Tan will be leading a Singapore team to Jakarta for an emergency haze meeting. He stated his hope that both countries would reach further agreement on concrete steps to tackle the haze.
