TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Port Link Passenger Motor Boat (KMP) owned by the state water transportation company ASDP Indonesia Ferry have been dispatched to serve crossings from the Merak Port in Banten to the Bakauheni Port in Lampung on Monday, June 10. The KMP Port Link is expected to reduce traffic in Merak Port which spanned all the way to the Tangerang-Merak toll road.
The boat operation was officially implemented by the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Dahlan Iskan. The inauguration was also attended by the ASDP Indonesia Ferry CEO Danang Baskoro, the steel manufacturer Krakatau Steel CEO Irfan Kamal, Transportation deputy minister Bambang Susandono, Banten province secretary Muhadi, and the Cilegon mayor Tubagus Iman Ariyadi.
After the inauguration, Dahlan said that the docks in Merak Port are not maximized yet. The port only has five docks. "ASDP should add more docks to meet the number of operating ships. Especially with the Port Links, the docks should have several levels," said the minister.
