TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi) banned foreign investors from developing the tourism sector on the Thousand Islands.
"Local investors should be enough," said Jokowi during the inauguration ceremony for the new District Chief of Seribu Islands, Asep Syarifudin, on Pari Island, Thousand Islands, yesterday.
The governor insisted the district chief to develop the tourism sector. "Tourism has the most potential for development in order to increase the welfare of the Thousand Islands residents," he said.
Therefore, the administration must repair the various supporting facilities and infrastructures in the region such as the availability of clean water, docks, and public transport facilities. These are the main requirements for developing tourism sector, said the governor.
The homes of the residents on Pari Island are currently home-stay facilities for tourists. One house is rented out for approximately Rp 600,000 (around US$60) per night. Jokowi hopes the development of the tourism sector on the Thousand Islands can use funds derived from the regional budget (APBD).
