TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Education and Culture Ministry says the implementation of the 2013 Education Curriculum will only be limited to top schools, especially former international standard pilot project schools (RSBI) and schools with grade ‘A’ accreditation.
"Only schools that have sufficient facilities and management," Hamid Muhammad, the director general for middle education, said yesterday.
Hamid believes that former RSBI high schools are more prepared to face the new curriculum compared to regular high schools. Meanwhile, 85 percent of schools with grade ‘A’ accreditation fulfill national standards.
Education forum coordinator Elin Driana, questioned the implementation of the new curriculum for high schools. Elin stated that the new curriculum should not only be implemented in top schools.
"(The government) should sample both high and low quality schools so each type is represented," Elin told Tempo.
Elin insisted that each school has its own characteristics. If all types of schools are represented, then the government will be able to see the weaknesses of the implementation of the new curriculum under any circumstances.
