TEMPO.CO, Moscow - The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that the novel coronavirus (NcoV) can be easily transmitted from human to human. "Groupings in different countries supports the hypothesis that novel coronavirus can be transmitted from one person to another through close contact," says WHO.
The statement was released after the French Health Ministry confirmed that another person has been infected by the virus through a possible case of transmission between humans. Health officials in Saudi Arabia had also informed WHO about two cases of NcoV infections.
However, WHO stated that "this pattern of person-to-person transmission has remained limited to some small clusters and so far, there is no evidence that the virus has the capacity to sustain generalized transmission in communities."
WHO claimed on its site on 9 May that, from September 2012 until now, 33 laboratories around the world had confirmed cases of NcoV infection, which causes 18 fatalities.
NcoV is a new variant of virus that can cause pneumonia and sometimes kidney failures. Infections were mostly detected in Saudi Arabia and Jordan. According to the BBC, the virus has also been known to spread to Germany, England, and France.
