TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Free Guantanamo Prisoners, or Drag Them to Court! It is the petition core launched by Colonel Morris Davis, a former military judge advocate, to United States President, Barack Obama. The petition is already signed by 137,400 people.
The prisoners, mostly of terrorist case, are seemingly lost behind the bars, having served their timeless detention. They tried to draw the world’s attention by some actions like hunger strike. From 166 prisoners, 100 joined in the strike, entering the fourth month already.
US Government tried to end the strike. Liut. Col. Samuel House, Guantanamo spoke person said "Around 23 of the strike participants were fed through their nose. Three were taken into hospital though they are not in extreme danger."
Out of all the prisoners in Guantanamo, 86 prisoners were declared 'clear' and can be released. James Jones, former congressman and US Ambassador for Mexico, said in an interview that the limitless detention must be stopped. He mentioned that the kind of detention is against US principles of justice.
Barack Obama last week finally promised, for the second time after 2009, to shut down Guantanamo.
