TEMPO Interactive, YOGYAKARTA:Gadjah Mada University (UGM) is building a garbage recycling laboratory as part of its integrated garbage processing management program this year. The target is to have zero waste at UGM premises within the next few years.The garbage management program will start with selecting garbage at the faculty level to dumping it at the lab, Sri Puji Saraswati, a member of UGMs Environmental Study Center team said yesterday.The recycling lab is being built on UGMs land alongside a 5-hectare agricultural and farm area in Sleman. Saraswati said the lab would not only be a dumping site, but also a place for UGM students to learn about garbage management. As an initial step, UGM has placed orange and blue trash bins on the site so that students can separate organic waste from plastic and glass. This month they will build 13 trash depots around the UGM campus. BERNADA RURIT
