TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Drivers of online motorcycle taxis, or ojol, have announced that they will not accept orders today because they will be protesting at several points. The reason for the strike is that the drivers feel that there is injustice between the app companies and the drivers.
The drivers include those who work for Grab, Go-Jek, Maxim, Shopee and Lalamove.
"On behalf of online motorcycle taxi drivers in Jabodetabek (Greater Jakarta area) and throughout Indonesia, we will not be accepting or taking orders in any form, food, rides, and packages on August 29, 2024," the chairman of the National Ojol Coalition Presidium, Andi Gustianto, said in a written statement received on Thursday, August 29.
It has not been announced how long the strike will last. The National Ojol Coalition said only that it hoped passengers would be able to use alternative means of transportation on August 29.
"We apologize for the inconvenience," he said.
As previously announced, the ojol and courier community throughout Jabodetabek will hold a demonstration today. Several locations will be the center of the demonstration, namely the Merdeka Palace, the Gojek office around the Petojo area in Central Jakarta, and the Grab office around Cilandak in South Jakarta.
