Dasco Claims DPR has Cancelled Ratification of Pilkada Law Revision

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), has announced that the discussion on the revision of the Regional Elections or Pilkada Law has been canceled. He made the statement in a post on his personal X account at 17:18.
"The ratification of the revision of the Regional Electoral Law, which was scheduled for today, August 22, has been CANCELLED, therefore, in the registration for the regional elections on August 27, what will apply is the JR decision of the Constitutional Court, which granted the lawsuit of the Labor Party and the Gelora Party," the tweet said.
When contacted, Dasco confirmed the tweet and said the adjournment was made because the number of lawmakers present was below the quorum of 50 percent plus 1. He said the endorsement was not possible because the plenary schedule was only August 22 and 27, while the registration of regional head candidates will start on August 27 or next Tuesday.
"If we want it to be ratified, it has to be by Tuesday because the registration for the pilkada starts on Tuesday. So the MK [decision] is the one that will be implemented," Dasco said when contacted by Tempo.
Earlier, Dasco said that the Pilkada would follow the decision of the Constitutional Court if the revision of the Pilkada law had not been ratified by the time the candidates were registered.
"If the new law is not registered at the time of registration, it means that what applies is the last decision, which is the Constitutional Court's ruling," Dasco said at the DPR building on Thursday, August 22.
The DPR had planned to hold a plenary session today to adopt the regional election law. But only a handful of deputies were present. Dasco, who was chairing the plenary session, had adjourned the session for 30 minutes to wait for other members to arrive, but there was still no quorum. Dasco then adjourned the meeting.
