Jokowi to Conduct Project Groundbreaking at New Capital before August 17

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi is scheduled to conduct groundbreaking for five development projects in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN). Three of the five projects are an office for the banking company BCA, Indogrosir, and Swiss-Belhotel.
"He will be at IKN from August 11 to 13 and will return (to Jakarta) on August 14. So, a project groundbreaking is expected during his visit later,” said Acting Head of the IKN Authority and Minister of Public Works and Housing Basuki Hadimuljono at the Presidential Palace on Thursday, August 1, 2024, as quoted by Antara.
Minister Basuki explained that the President will hold the first cabinet meeting at the new capital with the Onward Indonesia ministers on August 12, 2024.
During his visit to IKN, said Basuki, President Jokowi will also invite all governors, regents, and mayors across Indonesia to the new capital city on August 13 to witness the construction progress of IKN.
Previously, Jokowi had said that the cabinet meeting in IKN would be held after ensuring that supporting infrastructure, such as electricity, air conditioning (AC) and furniture are all ready and available. Responding to Jokowi’s statement, Basuki explained that all furniture and furnishings necessary for the meeting had been sent from the State Secretariat to IKN.
"The furniture is ready to be installed, including the ACs,” confirmed Basuki.
Basuki also explained that the water supply has reached Hotel Indonesia and the plots of the Coordinating Ministry on Economic Affairs offices.
The minister also confirmed the readiness of the roads around the Core Government Center Area, the ceremonial field, Garuda Palace, and the State Palace. These facilities and infrastructure are necessary for the Indonesian Independence Day ceremony on August 17 at IKN.
