TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi is scheduled to personally inspect the beginning of the second round of Polio vaccination at National Immunization Week (PIN) at Integrated Health Center (Posyandu) Rawajali III Graha Nendali Housing, Jayapura, Papua, on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.
Jayapura Regency Health Office Secretary Edward Sihotang said that the Posyandu services would run as normal during Jokowi’s visit. "The President and his entourage will witness firsthand the polio immunization for children at Posyandu Rawajali III," he said.
According to Edward, the National Children’s Day Committee has coordinated with the Presidential Security Force regarding Jokowi’s arrival. “We continued to prepare (for the arrival) all night, including the readiness of parents to take their children to Posyandu Rawajali III," he said.
He explained that approximately 120 toddlers and children would attend the immunization in Papua today. "Seven Posyandu cadres and five additional health workers from community health centers will help organize the commencing of the second round of Polio National Immunization Week in Papua successfully," said Edward.
Edward hoped Jokow’s presence at today’s immunization will boost the polio vaccination rate across Indonesia, especially Papya.
"There will also be distribution of nutritious meals for the participating toddlers and children,” he said. The government will also distribute social assistance for Papua residents during the event.
President Jokowi will also hold a dialogue with Papua residents on health and social welfare in the province, especially in Jayapura Regency.
