TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The National Search and Rescue Agency or Basarnas in Bali safely evacuated five victims of a helicopter with code PKWSP which crashed in Suluban, Pecatu Village, Badung, Bali.

"Based on initial information, there were five people onboard, including the pilot and crew, and all victims were safely evacuated,” said Head of Basarnas Bali I Nyoman Sidakarya in a statement received in Denpasar, Friday, July 19, 2024.

The people onboard the helicopter during the crash consisted of four men and a woman, including the Bali Heli Tour pilot Dedi Kurnia and Oki, the flight crew.

Sidakarya said the three other victims were passengers, including Eloira Decti Paskilah from Indonesia, as well as Australian citizens Russel James Harris and Christophe Pierre Marrot Castellat.

The victims were all taken to Siloam Hospital for further treatment after being evacuated by Basarnas Bali from the premises. Meanwhile, Basarnas is waiting for the results of the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) investigation to identify the cause of the accident.

"We don't know the exact cause yet, we are still waiting for KNKT’s investigation,” he said.

The Bali Basarnas explained that the helicopter took off from the Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) helipad at 02:33 p.m. local time for a helicopter tour.

Not long after, the helicopter crashed at around 02:37 local time and the Bali Basarnas was notified of the crash at 03:25 p.m.

The helicopter crash has gone viral on social media, and while the cause of the incident is currently unconfirmed, images circulating online showed the helicopter’s engine entangled in a kite string.
