Health Ministry Talks of Plans for Evicted PKBI Office

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Health Ministry has revealed plans to utilize the land it recently vacated from the Perkumpulan Keluarga Berencana Indonesia (PKBI) office on Jalan Hang Jebat in South Jakarta. The eviction process remains controversial.

Misyal Achmad, the Health Ministry's Legal Expert, said the asset would be used for the benefit of the community. “We will build it to support the performance of the Health Ministry,” he told Tempo at the Health Workforce Directorate General office in South Jakarta on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

However, he refrained from elaborating on the specific use of the property. He stressed that the land belongs to the Health Ministry according to their land certificate.

“That's why the current Minister (Budi Gunadi Sadikin) has carried out significant steps to gain control of Ministry-owned assets,” Misyal said.

The eviction triggered outrage. PKBI officials claimed they were subjected to a "forced eviction" with dozens of officers, consisting of Satpol PP (Public Order Agency), the National Police (Polri), and the Indonesian Military (TNI), removing furniture and belongings onto trucks.

Eko Maryadi, PKBI Executive Director, expressed surprise at the scale of the operation. He claimed to have received prior notice of the eviction but did not anticipate such a forceful approach.

Negotiations with the Health Ministry and South Jakarta City Government representatives proved unsuccessful. PKBI argued that the eviction was unlawful due to the absence of a court-issued execution order and their ongoing Supreme Court judicial review (PK) filing. Additionally, they emphasize their non-executable court rulings at various levels.

Eko pointed out that the PKBI has legally occupied the land since 1970 based on the Jakarta Governor's Decree dated April 25, 1970. He demanded the Health Ministry present a valid execution order, stating that the PKBI would vacate willingly upon its presentation. “We are not thieves. We are legal residents. This raid-like treatment is unacceptable,” Eko concluded.
