BMKG: Prepare for Afternoon Showers in Greater Jakarta

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that Greater Jakarta or Jabodetabek may expect a sunny morning with scattered clouds today, July 1. However, the Thousands Islands will be shrouded in overcast skies.

In the afternoon, the capital and its surrounding regions will see a change of scenery as clouds roll in across the region. The agency warned of a chance of light showers in some areas, including West, South, and East Jakarta.

“Be aware of the potential for rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds in parts of South Jakarta and East Jakarta at night,” the agency said in its early warning.

Weather forecast for Jakarta’s neighbors

After a sunny morning, cloudy skies are expected in Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi with a slight chance of evening showers starting in the afternoon. Meanwhile, a transition to mostly cloudy skies is forecast for the Tangerang area this evening.

The BMKG further issued an early warning of possible moderate to heavy rain with possible thunderstorms (lightning and strong winds) between noon and evening for the central and southern parts of Tangerang Regency. Similar conditions may occur in localized areas of Bogor Regency during this timeframe.
