Transportation Ministry Denies Data Breach on Dark Web

25 June 2024 21:35 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaA spokesperson for the Transportation Ministry, Adita Irawati, clarified that the ministry was aware of a data breach on June 6, and the leaked data was not from the ministry's database.

After inspecting the leaked data at the ministry's data and information center, it was found that the structure and content of the leaked data were different from the data contained in the ministry‘s database,” Adita said on Tuesday, June 25.

According to her, the suspected leaked data was old and had not been updated. “A forensic process is currently underway to determine future mitigation steps. The ministry remains committed to strengthening digital security,” she stressed.

In efforts to bolster cybersecurity, Adita said the ministry has prepared an Electronic-Based Government System (SPBE) and implemented a 'One Transportation Data Policy'.

“We have partnered with the National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN) to identify crucial information infrastructure for further upgrading to meet security protection standards, and to immediately establish a Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) and Disaster Recovery Center (DRC),” Adita explained.

Initial reports about the alleged data breach of various state institutions and agencies emerged on social media through an account named @MurtadhaOne1. The leaked data was reportedly put up for sale on the dark web for US$7,000 or approximately Rp114.72 billion (based on an assumed exchange rate of Rp16,389 per US dollar).

Other than the Transportation Ministry, sensitive data from the Indonesian Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) and the National Police’s Indonesia Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (Inafis) were also leaked on the dark web by a well-known hacker named MoonzHaxor.

The @MurtadhaOne1 account claimed to have received the news from a blue-ticked account named @FalconFeeds.io, which frequently shares information related to data leaks sold on dark web platforms.
