TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The House of Representatives (DPR) Hajj Monitoring Team evaluates the 2024 hajj implementation. The committee highlighted several issues during hajj operations, including transportation, food menus for Indonesian Hajj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia, and the ONH Plus Hajj quota.

Responding to this, Deputy Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Yandri Susanto said the 2024 hajj implementation was better than the previous year. According to him, there were no incidents of neglect and overcrowding of pilgrims in Muzdalifah as were last year.

"The peak of the hajj in Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina went smoothly. The pilgrims were able to perform hajj rituals well," said Yandri in his official statement received in Jakarta, on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.

He said the efforts to mobilize Indonesian hajj pilgrims from Arafah to Muzdalifah and Mina went more smoothly this year. The number of pilgrims who died during hajj this year also decreased.

Yandri visited Saudi Arabia directly on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, to inspect the condition and review the accommodation for Indonesian hajj pilgrims. The pilgrims said they are happy with the service thus far, Yandri said.

Special Committee Receives Report on Hajj Issues

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the DPR hajj committee, Muhaimin Iskandar, said his side has received various reports on the hajj operation this year. The problem ranges from AC malfunctioning to overcapacity of pilgrim’s tents. The tents are also not equipped with adequate mattresses, he said on Tuesday.

The DPR hajj committee also found improper placements of tents that do not match the designated maktab. Muhaimin also revealed delays in bus transport that carried pilgrims from their lodging to Arafah.

"Several findings obtained by the Monitoring Team will be evaluated," he said.
