Indonesia to Receive 221,000 Hajj Quota Next Year, Says Minister

19 June 2024 08:52 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas announced that the country will receive a Hajj quota of 221,000 people in 2025. This announcement was made during the event to celebrate the conclusion of this year’s Hajj pilgrimage 1445 Hijri organized by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in Makkah. Leaders of Hajj delegations from various countries were present.

“I've received information from the Saudi Deputy Ministry for Hajj Affairs 'Ayed Al Ghuwainim, and according to the letter I received, Indonesia will get 221,000 Hajj quotas for 1446 Hijri/2025,” Yaqut said in Mecca on Wednesday, June 19.

The Ministry of Religion appreciated the proactive steps taken by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj in announcing the quota early, which will allow for faster preparations for the pilgrimage.

“We also appreciate the Saudi authorities' strict adherence to the rules regarding Hajj visas and non-Hajj visas,” he added.

Yaqut assessed that this year’s Hajj pilgrimage was successful according to several indicators. First, the arrival of pilgrims was smooth, with the quota of 213,320 regular Hajj pilgrims being fully utilized, leaving only 45 people who could not be replaced due to the visa process being closed.

“This is the smallest unabsorbed quota figure in more than 10 years of Hajj operations,” he claimed.

Second, the services also ran smoothly in both Medina and Makkah, providing pilgrims with food, transportation, and accommodation, as well as protection and worship guidance.

“Indonesia is the largest sender of Hajj pilgrims in the world. This is obviously not an easy task. The fast-track service for the first time at three embarkation points, namely Jakarta, Solo, and Surabaya also went smoothly,” Yaqut remarked.
