PUPR Minister Invites Indonesian Workers in Uzbekistan to Support New Capital Construction

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Minister of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono invited Indonesian citizens in Uzbekistan to get involved in Nusantara Capital City (IKN) development.

"We really welcome anyone interested in working at IKN. The construction of IKN requires a lot of people, and there are still many project packages left to be auctioned,” said Basuki in his statement in Jakarta on Friday, June 14, 2024.

During his working visit to Uzbekistan, the PUPR Minister took the time to meet Indonesian citizens who work in construction in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Around 160 Indonesians currently work in Uzbekistan, with 52 working in construction. Basuki expressed his pride in the Indonesian construction workers in Uzbekistan.

"The experience of working overseas will be a useful provision with good standards to be put into practice in Indonesia. If you return to Indonesia, you must have superior skills to share with other colleagues in Indonesia," he said.

On this occasion, Basuki conveyed infrastructure achievements in Indonesia from 2015 to 2023. In the water resources sector, the PUPR Ministry has completed the construction of 43 dams, 1,181,120 hectares of irrigation areas, rehabilitation of 4,344,317 hectares of irrigation networks, provision of 44.27 meter cubic/second of raw water, construction of 1,347 reservoir units and 2,002 kilometers of flood control, and beach safety.

The PUPR Ministry also built 2,050 kilometers of toll roads, 5,833 kilometers of new national roads, 122,492 meters of bridges, 25,638 meters of flyovers/underpasses, and 583 suspension bridges. 

For the residential sector, the PUPR Ministry has constructed SPAM with a capacity of 33,275 liters/second, waste management and sanitation for 13.2 million families, handling 93,943 hectares of residential areas, development of 15 Integrated PLBN areas, as well as 3,443 units of educational, sports and market infrastructure and facilities.

Then in the housing sector, the PUPR Ministry has built 65,235 units of flats, 37,516 units of special houses, 1,432,278 units of self-supporting houses, and 220,656 units of infrastructure and utility facilities. 

Minister Basuki also conveyed the developmental progress of the new capital. "There are 104 work packages for IKN development in 2020 to 2024 with physical progress reaching 41.3 percent. A total of 25 packages have been completed, 61 packages are in the construction process, and 18 packages are being prepared or auctioned," said Basuki.
