TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned aircraft manufacturer PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) signed a deal with PT Intercrus Aero Indonesia to develop and market an air taxi product called Intercrus Sola in Bandung on Wednesday, June 12.
PTDI President Director Gita Amperiawan said the flying car business has great potential. “This is a future business, but we are talking about the near future. This is a business that will be in the market in 2-3 years,” Gita said after witnessing the MoU signing in Bandung on Wednesday.
PTDI had previously signed a collaboration with another local air taxi startup, namely PT Vela Prima Nusantara, which is developing a flying car called Vela Alpha, which is expected to enter the market in late 2028.
Gita said the two products, Intercrus Sola and Vela Alpha, will complement each other. “We have calculated all of this so that everything can run synergistically and produce optimal output. So no party is harmed, instead, everyone benefits from each other,” he remarked.
Moh. Arif Faisal, PTDI Director of Commerce, Technology, and Development, said the potential future market of flying taxis is worth around 33 billion dollars or more than 500 trillion rupiah until 2050.
“In Indonesia, the market is also wide open. By 2050, it is estimated that the demand [for flying cars] will be around 1,300 units. It is exceedingly large potential,” Arif said in Bandung. “We are trying to meet the demand. We are trying to take on the challenge.”
