TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned construction company PT Hutama Karya (Persero) is investigating an incident near the MRT tracks at the Attorney General's Office (AGO) on Thursday afternoon. A crane carrying a load of rebar malfunctioned, causing the steel to fall onto the MRT tracks.

The rebar came from the construction project of the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes Building at the AGO, where Hutama Karya is the contractor.

"We are still investigating, we will provide an update soon," said Hutama Karya's EVP Corporate Secretary Adjib Al Hakim when contacted on Thursday, May 30.

Hutama Karya apologized for the incident, which disrupted access to public transportation. The company was clearing construction materials from the MRT track.

"PT Hutama Karya (Persero) will continue to provide the latest updates on handling the incident site at the first opportunity through the Hutama Karya social media account," Adjib said.

The incident led to the temporary suspension of operations at MRT Jakarta. Ahmad Pratomo, head of the corporate secretary department at PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda), said all passengers on board had been dropped off at the nearest stations.

"PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) apologizes for the inconvenience caused by this disruption. We always ensure the safety of MRT Jakarta passengers," he said.
