TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A rebar used in construction work at the Attorney General's Office (AGO) complex in South Jakarta fell at around 4:40 p.m. on Thursday, May 30. The incident caused MRT operations to be suspended until the steel was moved from the tracks.
Tempo sources said sparks appeared on the crane's rope around 4:38 pm. A minute later, sparks appeared again, causing the crane rope to break and the steel to fall and land on the side of the MRT Jakarta tracks.
An MRT train from ASEAN station to Blok M had grazed the steel. Tempo sources heard what sounded like a train hitting something. However, the Ratangga train continued to move.
Several AGO employees came out of the building when they heard the loud crash.
PT MRT Jakarta corporate secretary Ahmad Pratomo said all passengers were dropped off at the nearest station. "No one was injured," he said on Thursday, May 30.
The crane belongs to PT Hutama Karya (Persero). The state-owned contractor is working on a project at the AGO building.
