Indonesian Authorities Investigating Crash of a Training Plane That Killed 3 People

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) will conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the plane crash near Sunburst Field, BSD Tangerang. They will analyze the conversation between the trainer pilot and the air traffic control officer.
KNKT chief Soerjanto Tjahjono said the committee was still analyzing several pieces of information about the crash. "For now, we are still carrying out investigations. After receiving more information, we will disclose more, including conversations with the watch tower," he said on Sunday, May 19.
The KNKT will also examine aircraft debris to help gather data on the causes of training aircraft accident.
"We noticed that there was a machine that fell over there, and there was a propeller that fell. We recorded all the positions and tried to determine the last position of the aircraft before it hit the tree," he said.
He added that at present, all the debris and the body of the crashed plane had been brought to Pondok Cabe for further investigation and analysis.
The light aircraft with registration number PK-IFP was flying from Tanjung Lesung, Banten to Pondok Cabe airfield on Sunday noon. It crashed near Sunburst Field in BSD City, South Tangerang at around 2:00 p.m. West Indonesia Time.
According to the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), the crash occurred during heavy rain. South Tangerang Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Ibnu Bagus Santoso said on Sunday that the plane belonged to a group from the Indonesia Flying Club.
