TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan met Singaporean Prime Minister (PM) Lee Hsien Loong in Singapore on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. Both discussed the cooperation between Singapore and Indonesia in various fields, both at bilateral, regional, and multilateral levels.
Luhut also met the Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, Minister Lawrence Wong, who is set to replace PM Lee in May. "I told them that Singapore and Indonesia have succeeded in improving cooperative relations significantly," said Luhut via his personal Instagram on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.
According to him, the strengthening of cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore was attributed to the leadership of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and PM Lee. Both countries also agreed to continue and improve the cooperation that has existed so far.
Luhut also relayed several cooperation opportunities to Minister Wong, including the cross-border Carbon Capture Storage (CCS).
The minister believed this step would be a significant leap for Singapore and Indonesia to develop low-carbon industries. Moreover, according to Luhut, Indonesia is the fastest country in Asia-Pacific in developing CCS.
Additionally, he offered the opportunity to cooperate in the agriculture and blue food industries in Indonesia. He said Minster Wong was interested in the various collaborations that Luhut offered.
"He (Minister Wong) said he was ready to carry out preliminary studies for the cooperation plan," said Luhut.
Singapore also expressed its interest and commitment to developing Bali as a wellness tourism destination. Luhut said Singapore is interested in developing an international standard hospital in the province.
