TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft Satya Nadella will meet with Indonesian President Joko Widodo or Jokowi on April 30, as confirmed by Indonesian Minister of Communications and Information Budi Arie Setiadi on Wednesday, April 17. He said the government is eager to attract all the major global players in the technology sector to the country.
“It's not just a ceremonial presence. They are here to explore investment and promote future technological progress,” Budi Arie said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Although he refrained from providing details about what will be the agenda of the upcoming meeting, he emphasized the importance of investment and human resources management.
Budi Arie accompanied Jokowi in welcoming the visit of Apple CEO Tim Cook to the Merdeka Palace today, where they discussed the potential investment opportunities of the tech giant in Indonesia.
The government expected that the global technology companies would include Indonesia in their supply chain. Following the meeting, Cook stated that Apple was exploring the possibility of building a manufacturing plant in the archipelago.
On a separate occasion, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita estimated that Apple’s factory in Indonesia could lead to a reduction in the prices of Apple products in the domestic market. “It will also create employment opportunities and enhance Indonesia’s value-added,” he said.
