TEMPO.CO, JakartaTech giant Apple confirmed its plan to open an Apple Developer Academy on the Indonesian island of Bali, as announced by Indonesian Minister of Communication and Information (Kominfo) Budi Arie following the meeting between President Joko Jokowi Widodo and Apple CEO Tim Cook at the Jakarta Presidential Palace today, April 17.

“The investment value of this academy is around Rp1.2 trillion,” Arie said at the Kominfo office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday.

Budi mentioned that the country currently hosts three similar institutions in Batam, Surabaya, and BSD Tangerang, which he deems significant for boosting the human resources of the nation.

In addition, Budi revealed that the U.S. company was exploring other potential investments in the archipelago. These include in the manufacturing sector and the smart city for the development of the State Capital City of Nusantara (IKN) in East Kalimantan.

Earlier on Tuesday, April 16, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that the government would issue a policy concerning Apple’s investment prospects ahead of Tim Cook's visit to Indonesia. He claimed that it would specifically offset the local component requirement (TKDN) for products manufactured by Apple.
