Police 19,661 Traffic Violations on the Third Day of Eid

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of Public Relations Bureau (Karopenmas) of the Indonesian National Police Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, reported that on the third day of Eid al-Fitr, Friday, April 12, 2024, there were 317 traffic accidents across the country. As a result of these incidents, he stated that 43 people lost their lives, with 63 suffering from severe injuries, and 426 suffering minor injuries.
"The material losses amounted to Rp 566.5 million," Trunoyudo stated in an official release on Saturday, April 13, 2024.
The police also took action against 19,611 traffic violators. Trunoyudo mentioned that out of these, 19,060 violators were given a warning, while 511 were given electronic fines.
Furthermore, during the implementation of Operation Ketupat 2024 the police also encountered 696 cases of disturbances to public order and security. Trunoyudo detailed that these disturbances included seven incidents of disasters, four violations, and 24 incidents of disturbance to public order.
Trunoyudo also reported that on the second day of Eid al-Fitr, Thursday, April 11, 2024, there were 254 accidents.
Trunoyudo elaborated that out of those accidents, there were 45 fatalities, 48 severe injuries, and 366 minor injuries. "The material losses amounted to Rp 631.9 million," Trunoyudo stated in a written release on Friday, April 12, 2024.
Additionally, Trunoyudo mentioned that the police had also taken action against 834 traffic violators. The breakdown of these actions included 612 warnings and 222 electronic fines.
Previously, the Chief of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps, Inspector General Aan Suhanan, claimed that there has been a decrease in traffic accidents from April 4 to April 10, 2024. Aan stated that these figures were based on the evaluation of the homecoming flow before Eid al-Fitr until April 10.
"Traffic accidents decreased by 12 percent, from 1,723 cases to 1,581 cases," said Aan Suhanan in his official statement on Thursday, April 11, 2024.
Aan detailed that out of the total figures, fatalities decreased by 0.04 percent, severe injuries by 19 percent, and minor injuries by 18 percent. He compared these figures with the numbers recorded during Operation Ketupat back in 2023.
However, Aan expressed concern over the accidents on KM 58 of the Cikampek Toll Road and the recent fatal incident on KM 370 of the Batang Toll Road. The accident on KM 58 of the Cikampek Toll Road resulted in 12 fatalities, while the accident on KM 370 of the Batang Toll Road claimed seven lives.
Moreover, the Traffic Corps of the Indonesian National Police also recorded 500 accidents on the day before Eid al-Fitr until the first day of Eid al-Fitr, Wednesday, April 10, 2024. The traffic accidents that occurred from Tuesday to Wednesday claimed 67 lives.
