TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) predicted that the peak of the return flow of Eid al-Fitr will occur on Sunday and Monday. The police urged travelers to avoid the peak traffic by returning earlier or later.
"Do not wait for the peak [of the return flow], or we also urge delaying the return after that or on April 17, 18, or 19, 2024," said the Head of Korlantas Polri, Inspector General Aan Suhanan in Jakarta on Friday, April 12, 2024.
Aan asks travelers to take advantage of the toll fare discounts implemented from April 17 to 19, 2024, to prevent vehicle congestion during the peak of the return flow.
"Employees from ministries, agencies, private sectors, who can work from home, it can be implemented," Aan added.
Additionally, Aan urged drivers to ensure their health condition. He warns drivers not to push themselves to continue driving if their concentration is reduced and if they feel tired.
Aan suggested that four-wheeled vehicle drivers should rest after 4 hours of travel, while two-wheeled vehicle drivers should rest after a maximum of 2 hours of travel.
"For public transportation, the working period is eight hours. If it's been eight hours, it means using a backup driver. This is for bus and travel company owners, there must be backup drivers, so we can ensure safety," Aan said.
Previously, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi also urged travelers to return on Friday or Saturday.
"Therefore, as the President's advice before to return earlier. If possible, [Friday] or Saturday," said Budi at KM 70 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road (Japek) on Thursday, April 11, 2024.
According to Budi, the return flow on Friday, April 13, and Saturday, April 14, 2024, is still low and will not cause congestion because the peak of the Eid al-Fitr return flow is predicted to occur on H+3 and H+4 of Eid al-Fitr 2024.
