TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - KAI Commuter, a subsidiary of the state-owned railway company KAI, reported a surge in the number of Commuter Line passengers, particularly on the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Train, during the Eid homecoming period from March 31 to April 7.
“The increase is quite significant in Soekarno Hatta Airport (Bansoetta) Commuter Line users,” Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter, Anne Purba, said in a written statement on Sunday, April 7.
He said KAI Commuter had served 54,786 Basoetta Commuter Line users as of Saturday, April 6. On Saturday alone, there were 10,747 passengers, an increase of 55-61 percent from the average volume before this year's Eid holiday.
Meanwhile, the highest volume was recorded on the last working day on Friday, April 5, with 11,287 people. Along with this spike, KAI Commuter ran eight more trips on April 5-8 and April 13-16, bringing the total to 64.
Adita Irawati, a spokesperson for the Transportation Ministry, said that the Eid homecoming traffic by air was smooth, despite the density at several large airports such as Soekarno Hatta, Juanda, Sepinggan, and Makassar.
She said that the movement of public transport passengers began to increase on D-5 Eid al-Fitr. The number of air transport passengers was 271,355 on D-5 Eid, increased by 17.84 percent compared to the same period last year of 230,271 passengers and by 68.33 percent compared to normal daily traffic.
