TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) General Listyo Sigit Prabowo assured of the safety of train travel during Eid homecoming period after a review of Senen Station, Jakarta, on Saturday, April 06, 2024.
He noted that so far, he has not received information on the risks of crime cases during the Eid homecoming period.
He stressed that police personnel on duty in areas the homecoming travelers will pass through are ready to provide security.
"Hopefully, with the readiness of the security personnel, the train services, all travelers who choose trains can be served well," he said at a press conference at Senen Station.
Prabowo then lauded state-run railway company PT KAI, which is giving people who miss their train the opportunity to take the next train.
"As of today, the KAI president director reported that so far, it (the number of passengers) has reached 20,800, one of the highest numbers," he highlighted.
Meanwhile, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, who was also present during the review, asked KAI to remain alert against disasters that could affect railway lines.
He said that PT KAI must use the posts that have been established on railways to anticipate the risks.
"The weather has caused landslides at several points, especially in Garut, Tasikmalaya, and Purwokerto. Therefore, teams must be readied and they (the points) must be checked," he added.
He also expressed appreciation for the visit of the Polri chief and the commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), General Agus Subiyanto, saying it reflected the synergy between Polri and TNI and provided a sense of security to travelers.
According to a survey carried out by the Ministry of Transportation, 193.6 million people are projected to participate in the homecoming exodus to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, which is predicted to fall on April 10 this year.
