TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi will celebrate this year’s Eid al-Fitr in Jakarta. He is also scheduled to hold an open house, a rare chance for the public to meet with the President and other top state officials.
“God willing, [he will celebrate Eid] in Jakarta and is scheduled for an open house. [The plan is] not finalized yet, but in Jakarta,” State Secretary Minister Pratikno said at the Jakarta Presidential Palace on Friday, April 5, after the inauguration ceremony of state officials.
Previously on April 3, Pratikno said the Religious Affairs Minister had written to the President to perform Eid prayers at the Istiqlal Mosque in Central Jakarta, the largest mosque in Southeast Asia.
However, when met at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base on April 3, Jokowi remained tight-lipped when asked about his agenda for Eid al-Fitr. He joked with the reporters that he would celebrate Eid in Indonesia.
Last year, the head of state spent the Eid al-Fitr holidays with his family in his hometown of Solo, Central Java.
The Religious Affairs Ministry planned to announce the date of the 2024 Eid al-Fitr after the Isbat or confirmation meeting on Tuesday, April 9.
Unlike Jokowi, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin had confirmed that he will perform the annual Eid prayer at the Istiqlal Mosque as usual. He also said that he will not hold an open house, but will welcome guests at his residence before leaving town at noon.
