Top Court Urged to Summon Jokowi in Election Dispute Hearing

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Civil Society Coalition for Democracy and Anti-Corruption demanded the Constitutional Court (MK) summon President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to the hearing of the 2024 presidential election dispute (PHPU).
In an open letter submitted today, April 4, the civil society coalition believed that the President played a role in influencing the course of the general elections, including his involvement in the nomination of his eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as Prabowo Subianto's vice presidential candidate.
“We consider it important and urge the Constitutional Court to immediately present and question President Jokowi at the court’s session,” said the representative of the civil society coalition, Usman Hamid, at the MK Building, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, April 4.
According to Usman, the President should provide information on evidence of the politicization of social assistance by himself and his cabinet ministers as a campaign tool for candidate number two, Prabowo-Gibran.
The civil society coalition also highlighted the mobilization of the state apparatus (ASN) and the partisanship of acting regional heads as well as the police and military officers, which led to an unreasonable increase in their vote tally.
“The President's inappropriate behavior in influencing the election process in such a way has provided electoral advantages for Candidate Pair 02, including Joko Widodo's son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka,” the letter read.
Former leader of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Saut Situmorang, Director of Amnesty International Indonesia Usman Hamid, and Muhammadiyah’s head of research and public policy advocacy department Gufroni delivered the letter to the Constitutional Court today on behalf of the civil society coalition, six other individuals, including former KPK investigator Novel Baswedan, and six community groups.
