TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The legal team of the presidential candidate pair number 1, Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar (AMIN), stated that there is a possibility of an election re-run. The team also asked the winning candidate pair to refrain from deliberating future cabinet ministers.
Heru Widodo, a member of the AMIN’s legal team, said the General Elections Commission’s (KPU) decision on the 2024 election results is not absolute as the Constitutional Court could overturn it.
“Either due to violations in Sirekap or the candidate requirements,” Heru said during a break of the election dispute hearing at the Constitutional Court Building, Jakarta on Wednesday, April 3. Sirekap is the official vote-counting and tabulating app developed by the KPU.
On March 20, the KPU declared candidate pair number 02 Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming as the winner of the 2024 presidential election with 96,214,691 votes, triumphing over two opponents, Anies-Muhaimin who secured 40,971,906 votes and candidate pair number 03 Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md who received 27,040,878 votes.
Heru asked the winning pair not to be excessively euphoric as the KPU’s decision has a high likelihood of being invalidated. “What if there will be an election re-run?” he said.
The Constitutional Court conducted the fourth hearing of the presidential election dispute today, with the KPU and the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) presenting experts and witnesses to the court.
Apart from the KPU and the Bawaslu, the legal team of Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar as representatives of Petitioner I, and the legal team of Ganjar-Mahfud as Petitioner II attended the hearing. The Prabowo-Gibran team was also present as a related party.
