Minister Muhadjir Deems Aceh - Sumut PON 2024 as Gift for Jokowi

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy stated that the Aceh - North Sumatra National Games (PON) 2024 will be a special gift for President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.

“This is a special gift to President Jokowi, who will end his term of office in 2024,” Muhadjir said after reviewing the construction progress of the games venue at the Harapan Bangsa Stadium complex in Banda Aceh, on Wednesday, March 27.

Muhadjir conducted the monitoring with the Acting Governor of Aceh and the General Chairman of the National Sports Council (KONI).

According to him, the schedule for holding the country’s biggest sporting event was deliberately designed for September 2024. Thus, he hoped that the development process would be further improved, so that it would be completed more quickly by mid-July.

“This timeline needs to be sped up because there will be visits from the regions for trials, venue checking, and preparation for the opening ceremony,” he added.

Muhadjir also believed that the work on the PON arena would run well as young people are managing everything.

The excitement of PON, he went on, would really depend on the enthusiasm of the people of Aceh, the governors, and officials. “I'm sure it will be more lively this year because human resources and spectator mobilization are much greater than the previous PON,” said Muhadjir Effendy.
